The Borschiv national embroidery embodies deep traditions and remains relevant throughout the ages!

One of the features of the embroidery from Borshchiv, which has more than five centuries of history, is the use of black embroidery color, which has its own symbolic shade. The emergence of this technique is associated with the tragic events that occurred in this region. Legend has it that in the 15th–18th centuries, the Borshchyv region was often attacked by Turks and Tatars, bringing death with them. During one of the attacks, all men were killed in the villages of Borshchiv district in Ternopil region. Women and girls, experiencing the loss, decided to honor the memory of the dead, promising to wear mourning in the form of black embroidery for several generations. These promises were fulfilled, and shirts with black embroidery became a symbol of this oath. Women who embroidered such shirts in the 20s and 30s of the last century were the last to follow this tradition.

Later, women began to use colored, bright threads instead of black wool to embroider shirts.

There are also interesting legends related to borscht embroidery, in particular, regarding a terrible disease from which only women suffered. They believed that black embroidery could protect them from this disease, cheating death.

Ancient borscht embroidered shirts are highly valued both in Ukraine and abroad, due to their uniqueness: almost no two shirts are exactly the same.

Our dear customers. "Gallery of Needlework" continues to work for you, but there have been some forced, temporary changes in our work. You should know about it.

During the war, our production reduced its capacity. Unfortunately, we cannot produce some of the products offered on the website or Instagram page yet.

After all, many of our craftsmen temporarily went abroad due to the war in Ukraine. In addition, we encountered a problem during the procurement of materials. There are not many types of fabrics and threads on sale, and the color range of these products is limited.

Due to these circumstances, we ask you to discuss this with us before ordering products on the website or expecting that the delivery time will be short, to make sure that the order will be fulfilled and on time.

Currently, we can offer customers what is already in stock. Also, customers can discuss with us the possibility of manufacturing a certain product by calling us or in private messages.

Thank you for staying with us in the difficult time of the war and we hope for your understanding. We believe in the quick victory of Ukraine and that soon the "Gallery of Embroidery" will be fully operational again. Let's survive difficult times together!
